Youth games bid approved

Limelight Sports has secured a £1m contract to manage the London Youth Games for the next three years. The agency saw off a rival bid in a two-way pitch after running this summer's event.

The games involve 25,000 Londoners aged from seven to 17, from all 32 of London's boroughs, competing in 30 different sports for the Jubilee Trophy.

The event was inaugurated in 1977 as part of the Queen's Silver Jubilee celebrations.

Limelight Sports managing director Craig Dews said: "This year saw a significant rise in participation. This will to some extent be due to the Olympic factor and it is part of our job to ensure participants maintain their involvement with sport in the future."
