World's biggest custard pie fight marks Chessington's "Beanoland" closure: pics

More than 1,000 custard pies were thrown in under two minutes by guests at Chessington World of Adventures yesterday (20 September) in an event to mark the closure "Beanoland" for refurbishment.

The custard fight, which Event last week held a competition to win tickets to, was attended by 300 people, smashing the previous record of 271 people.

The pies, filled with 216kg of real custard and 50kg of whipped cream, were sold for £1 each, and raised more than £300 for Merlin's Magic Wand charity.

"The custard pie fight was a fitting way to say goodbye to Beanoland. Although we are sad to see it go we are excited about Chessington's plans for 2010," said Merlin's general manager of events, Michael Aldridge.

"The Park Side marquee within Beanoland is now closed for refurbishment, details of which will be announced once we have cleared up the mess, but VIP tickets that offer an executive experience without the venue are available until the park closes on 1 November," he added.
