The Point is part of the first phase in an overall £200m redevelopment plan for the area and is scheduled to open in autumn next year.

Once complete, it will be one of the largest event facilities in the region and will be able to cater for 1,000 guests for a sit-down dinner, with views over the world-famous Old Trafford cricket pitch.

The main suite will be pillar-free and sub-divisible into three spaces to accommodate smaller events.

"The plans look fantastic," said Andy Burnham MP, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, who was present at the official turf-cutting ceremony.

"It is vital for cricket in the North West to have an international-class venue."

Event reported how Trafford Borough Council approved the planning application for the venue in January.
