Due to open at the end of March, the show will feature a 1,000sqm outsize mock-up of Wallace & Gromit's house and garden, as seen in the films The Wrong Trousers and The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

The exhibition is the result of a new partnership between the Science Museum, (Wallace and Gromit creator) Aardman Animations and the UK Intellectual Property Office.

Tapping into Wallace and Gromit's famous talent for invention, it will feature interactive exhibits, creative activities and animated displays. The show aims to showcase British inventing talent and demonstrate how innovators can protect their intellectual property to ensure they derive the maximum value from their ideas.

"Britain has a proud history of inventing and creativity, from the jet engine and the world wide web, through to our creative industries and the Aardman Studio in Bristol," said minister for intellectual property Baroness Delyth Morgan. "In an increasingly competitive world, our future economic prosperity will depend on our ability to translate creativity and ideas into value."

Stage Electrics will handle the lighting for the exhibition, which launches on 27 March.
