UK firms get aid offer at Munich-run shows

The government is offering grants to UK companies that want to exhibit at worldwide electronics shows organised by Munich Trade Fairs.

Trade Partners UK, the Government body set up to help UK companies secure overseas sales and investments, has earmarked several exhibitions run by the German organiser in what it says are important and fast-growing areas.

The fairs in question include ElectronicAmericas in Sao Paolo, Brazil from 6-10 October, ElectronicAsia in Hong Kong from 13-16 October and ElectronicChina in Shanghai from 16-19 March 2004. These are in addition to events at Messe Munchen including Laser, which takes place from 23-26 June and Productronica which runs from 11-14 November.

"Firms can qualify for substantial support towards the costs of space and stand construction," said a Trade Partners UK spokesman.

German trade fair association AUMA has hit back at reports from the European Major Exhibition Centres Association that the country's exhibition industry is slowing down (Event, January). AUMA said the first 13 trade fairs of 2003 in Germany had had similar numbers of visitors and exhibitors compared to 2002.
