With Rio de Janeiro hosting the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Brazil Day 2016, taking place this weekend, on 10 September, aims to celebrate the Rio Games, Brazilian culture and the country’s passion for sport.
Attractions will include live Brazilian music, DJ and sport, with the music reflecting the cultural diversity of Brazil – from alluring bossa nova to the powerful beat of samba. There will also be a street-carnival atmosphere in the Square alongside a sporting dimension to the event, with interactive games and highlights of the Rio 2016 Games shown on a big screen.
Food stalls will showcase Brazilian street food and refreshments and will include a churrasco barbecue, Amazonian superfood açaí, pão de queijo (cheesebread), and other treats.
Brazil Day has taken place in Trafalgar Square in previous years, with the 2014 one tying in with the country hosting the Fifa World Cup. Other destinations that have been showcased in the same location include Malaysia, with the Malaysia Night event.
