The National Football League (NFL) will stage its first ever UK Friday Night Lights event in Trafalgar Square on 21 October.

The event will kick start a weekend of NFL activity in the capital, concluding with the game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Chicago Bears at Wembley Stadium on 23 October.

Big screens in the square will show NFL-themed movie Jerry Maguire staring Tom Cruise and Cuba Gooding Jr.

Live performances by cheerleaders and appearances from famous figures from the sport are also planned.

The free event is being supported by Motorola Mobility, with members of the public receiving complimentary popcorn, ponchos and NFL branded souvenir seating.

The following day (22 October) fans will be able to return to the square for the NFL Rally, taking place from 12 noon for more special appearances, live music and dance acts.

On Sunday (23 October) the focus switch to Wembley Stadium for the Tailgate Party and the game itself.
