The Events Industry Alliance
The Events Industry Alliance (EIA) is the new marketing arm for the exhibitions and events industry, and is equally owned by members of three associations that have increasingly worked together to speak with one powerful voice for the industry: The Association of Exhibition Contractors (AEC) The Association of Event Organisers (AEO) The Association of Event Venues (AEV) The EIA Board consists of board members from the AEC, AEO and AEV. The EIA is tasked with communicating the huge opportunities for business growth via the medium of ‘face-to-face’ marketing, and increasing the overall recognition of this powerful, effective and unique media channel. The EIA is focussed on promoting the events industry and to driving industry wide issues to its 5 target audiences of Press, Clients, Agencies/Media Planners, Government and Academia. The Association of Event Organisers (AEO) is the trade body for those who conceive, create, develop and manage trade exhibitions and consumer events. Through its elected council of representatives and specialist working groups, the AEO seeks to serve the interests of the exhibition and events industry. Member benefits include access to information about the industry such as research and technical guidance, networking opportunities and events, access to best practice and professional standards, promotion of the industry to the marketing community and other key stakeholders and a range of dedicated products and member services designed to help members to run their businesses more profitably and efficiently. The Association of Exhibition Contractors (AEC) is a trade association representing contractors and suppliers of goods and services to the exhibition industry. It shares a secretariat with its sister organisation the Association of Event Organisers and thus benefits from the central information source and all the services developed by the AEO. The Association of Event Venues (AEV) is owned and run by its members - established event venues - and represents the interests of an all-inclusive event venue community, focussed on creating and driving platforms that service integral industry needs, such as networking, research, guidance and training. BECA represents the interests of the countries leading exhibition designers, contractors and material/service suppliers – in fact all of those organisations required to ensure an exhibition can take place. The mission of the association is to continue to raise the standards of the industry as a whole and maintain the professionalism of all those working hands on, within the Industry. Members benefits from a wide range of support including information, training and advice on issues such as industrial relations, regulations, legislation, health & safety and employment. Support for members range from representation of member companies at industrial tribunals to one-to-one consultancy services to keep members abreast of all aspects of health and safety. BECA also advises on contracts of employment, method statements and risk assessments for exhibitions. Additionally a 24/7 helpline is available for both exhibitors and contractors alike. Members receive promotion via BECA's searchable database on the website, industry exhibitions, trade shows and the press. BECA also organises a number of events throughout the year including the AGM, and the Exhibition Industry Golf Day. Members are required to provide two years trading history and undergo a 12-month probationary period before they are allowed full membership. Once a full member, they are covered by the BECA Bond which, in the event of the contractor being taken into liquidation immediately prior to an exhibition, the Bond will fund a replacement contractor to complete the stand for the exhibitor without any additional cost. BECA is an independent, democratic and properly constituted trade association which is governed by rigorous Association Rules and Code of Conduct as well as a service Charter. In 2006 a trade body, Eventia, was created from the fusion of two complementary associations: the Incentive Travel and Meetings Association (ITMA) and the Corporate Events Association (CEA). The resulting body represents organisations that provide business solutions through the use of events. Eventia provides a central hub for live communication agencies, conference and incentive travel specialists, producers of experiential marketing activity, performance improvement companies and corporate entertainment agencies – as well as suppliers of services to these event management companies. It exists to deliver value to its members and their corporate clients by providing: • A conduit for the exchange of ideas and expertise in event management - through training, education, and events • A centre of information, providing news, guidance and advice on all legal and other regulatory issues affecting members’ business • A point of contact for corporate event planners seeking impartial guidance on supplier selection • A forum for the exchange of non-competitive information • A marketing channel for the promotion of the events industry • A unified voice with which to communicate to government departments and agencies, Parliament, the European Commission and Parliament and other relevant organisations • Networking opportunities and introductions between members • Recognition of excellence through two industry awards programmes Eventia offers three principal categories of membership: Event Organiser Members – these are professional event management agencies. The category is sub-divided into companies that organise UK-based events and those that produce events both in the UK and overseas. Partner Members – these are companies and tourism organisations whose services support and provide services to event organisers. This category is also sub-divided, into those members that trade from the UK and those that trade from addresses outside of the UK. Freelance Members – these are self-employed individuals providing freelance services to event organisers. The Association also offers Affiliate Membership to organisations, bodies, associations or academic institutions whose activities are complimentary to the objectives of Eventia.
