What is Pavegen Labs?
Pavegen Systems is a London-based company, founded in 2009, that manufactures and develops tiles that convert energy from footsteps into renewable electricity. This year it officially launched Pavegen Labs, which transforms everyday surfaces into interactive brand experiences through kinetic technology.
Tell me more…
For the FIFA World Cup in Rio last year, Pavegen Labs worked with Shell on a community project to create a football field that generated enough electricity to power lighting for the pitch. This created a well-lit and safe area for local children to play football.
Pavegen and Samsung
Working with Samsung, Pavegen has created a 68-tile walkway within one of South Africa’s most prestigious malls, Sandton City. Located in Johannesburg, the three-month installation is part of Samsung’s "What if I Can" campaign, storing energy from shoppers’ footfall in batteries for donation to poorer areas of the country both physically and digitally. The tiles will be used to visualise data on an interactive data screen, demonstrating the power of footfall and positive renewable energy.

The activation has achieved 14 million online impressions for Samsung and 3.5 million footsteps in three weeks.
