Top industry venues team up to call for help

The top 25 venues across the UK and Ireland have written to Prime

Minister Tony Blair urging him to help safeguard the future of the

industry and to provide compensation for cancelled agricultural

shows.

The Exhibition Venues Association (EVA) held special talks last month

about the impact of foot and mouth. Central city venues reported little

or no impact, but the major agricultural showgrounds painted a different

picture.

EVA chairman John Cole said: 'Unless there are major improvements in the

handling of the crisis we will be seeking direct consultations at the

highest possible level.'

EVA executive secretary Robin Anderson said: 'We want to know if we are

recognised as being part of the compensation for the business tourism

industry.'
