Top five experiential stories of the week

The BFG Experience, Merlin's talking donkeys and a floating Rekorderlig Cider festival were among the top read stories of the week.

Inside The BFG experience at Leicester Square

The BFG experience in London’s Leicester Square topped the charts as our most read story of the week. Entertainment One UK, the film distributor behind The BFG, worked with event design agency Heart Productions to create the experience, which included a giant Dream Tree, reflective pools, and a cave entrance to the BFG's House.

Cider brand Rekorderlig has embarked on a 30-day festival tour of London's waterways in a traditional Swedish vessel. Londoners are able to board the traditional Rekorderlig Midsommarstång and immerse themselves in Scandinavian style, culture, food and drink until 24 July. A tier of different experiences are available on board including an intimate three-course cider pairing fine dining experience by award-winning Swedish chefs.

Merlin Entertainments to offer 'talking' donkey rides on the South Bank

Attraction operator Merlin Entertainments is offering donkey rides with a difference on London's South Bank between 26-28 July. It has commissioned donkey expert Mark Ineson, along with science boffins at Design Works, to create a piece of technology that interprets the unique sounds each donkey’s "ee-aww". The donkeys – Carl, Sally, Danny and Sony – have travelled from their native Blackpool and are currently in training for their London debut when they will be giving free rides for children between the ages of two and 15.

The 7ft tall by 10ft wide volcanic structure held over three tonnes of mud and featured a crater that erupted with ‘molten-lava’ at regular intervals. Launched in partnership with The Wild Network, the Persil Wild Explorers app is free to download and provides more than 100 activities for families to do outside during the summer holidays to boost "play-inspiration" such as making a mud volcano, blowing a grass trumpet and creating a squirrel adventure course.
