The company surveyed more than 1,000 people working in event production about the importance of technology at events.

A decisive 90.8% saw social media as an integral part of their event offering.

When asked what social media activity they were most likely to conduct, 42.6% said they’d use Twitter to engage with their audience, while the first choice activity of 33% was to share images on social media.

A smaller 19.1% used LinkedIn to raise an event’s profile.

Nearly half of respondents said fast and reliable mobile connectivity was the most important technological aspect at a live event, ranking it as more important than scanable tickets or a CCTV network.

Of those using an internet-connected device, more than half used a smart phone on event sites.

Etherlive director Tom McInerney said: "Our customers face significant challenges running services in the middle of a field, building a mammoth concert or a large exhibition; for them the ability to communicate is imperative. We wanted to highlight that budget holders see technology as a sound investment and not an afterthought."

The survey was conducted between June and July 2011 and Etherlive plans to continue it annually.
