The move comes only a few weeks after he staged the institute's blue riband event - the Structural Awards at Lawrence Hall, Royal Horticultural Halls.
Mills was previously at the Science Museum in corporate events. Before that he was events manager at Modern 2000.
The Structural Awards was a lavish early-evening affair which used Moving Venue Catering for food, Reality for AV and production, Private Drama for entertainment and JW Flowers for flowers.
The awards celebrated its 40th anniversary and was staged in front of an impressive ‘sex up the cityscape' backdrop and main theme.
At the start of the ceremony one of the curtains surrounding the main venue moved back to reveal a huge plastic inflatable filling with air. Inside it was an acrobat who performed, suspended from inside the structure.
Moving Venue Caterers provided a design-led menu offering a variety of textures, flavours and presentation to complement the structural edge theme of the event.
Guests enjoyed Lobster ravioli with a Champagne and chive beurre blanc, followed by venison fillet with violet potatoes and finished with a port and chocolate sauce. Dinner was completed with a blueberry and orange water parfait.
