The South East has a network of reputable roadshow suppliers capable of transforming a blank-canvas mobile unit into a lean, mean marketing machine. Always check out an agency's current client list first - a generous sprinkling of household names is a good indicator of pedigree.
London-based Because Experiential Marketing recently converted a bus into a striking mobile unit to promote minimum wage rates on behalf of the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform. For this nationwide campaign The Corporate Merchandising Company (CMC) provided bespoke uniforms, but CMC also stocks everything from branded gifts to promotional pens and clocks.
Production company Line Up, which operates from Chiswick in west London, took Indesit on the road in March 2007 to reinvigorate interest in its Canon, Indesit and Hotpoint brands among both independent retailers and major chains. Its harem of suppliers includes long-established crew specialist Gallowglass, based in Acton, west London, which last year worked on 9,500 shows. Another recommended name is Global Displays, which provides Line Up with exhibition structures and displays.
Sky, Cancer Research UK, Umbro and Diageo are in the client portfolio of RPM, whose specialisms include staffing, design, production and photographics. Other tried-and-tested suppliers include GTMS for branding, while another central London possibility is Ignition, whose preferred suppliers include caterer Relish The Experience, part of Sodexo Prestige, and Capita Symonds, overseeing health and safety.
Lavish campaigns for the likes of Adidas, Philips, Kellogg's and Motorola have been conjured up by i2i Marketing, in Hampton, Middlesex, which offers everything from staffing and field marketing to online experiential support.
For basic mobile unit hire, David Wilson's Trailers, based in Haywards Heath, could be the best option. It has been building roadshow vehicles since 1984 and its range spans simple display trailers and sampling units to prestigious, 9.5-metre hospitality suites.
