SPAR'S 50th ANNIVERSARY PARTY
Food retail chain Spar celebrated its 50th birthday in style with 2,200 franchisees and suppliers attending a party on 22 September 2007 at the Battersea Evolution structure. The event was organised by the TFI Group and reflected the landmark 50th year with a golden theme.
Red Snapper Events treated guests to a champagne and canape reception, three-course dinner and a breakfast of bacon rolls and pain au chocolat at midnight. Canapes included Scottish scampi and chips, bangers and mash, and baby Yorkshire puddings with roast beef and horseradish cream. The starter was marinated duck parfait and the main course was roasted fennel and charred vegetable tian with pecorino pesto and passata sauce. Dessert was Eton mess with lavender shortbread.
Guests were entertained by Peter Kay, the Gershwin Gang Jazz Band, The Magnets and the Gilev Show Band. There was also a charity raffle for the NSPCC.

THE MAYOR OF LONDON'S NEW YEAR'S CELEBRATIONS
This year's New Year's Eve celebrations in London had a distinctly Olympic theme, reflecting Beijing's handover of Olympic host city status to London. Organised once again by Jack Morton Worldwide, the event took place around the River Thames and British Airways London Eye.
ETC produced monumental photographic projections of An Olympic Year, with images such as a close-up of a swimmer's face. A spectacular firework display was provided by pyrotechnician Christophe Berthonneau and lighting was handled by Durham Marenghi.
Jack Morton executive producer Jim Donald says: "The main area to think about was crowd management. We had 250,000 people within our viewing areas and we worked closely with the Metropolitan Police, stewarding company Show and Event Security, as well as Westminster City and Lambeth Borough Councils."
