SHOW PREVIEW: Somewhere for everyone - The first National venue Show promises to deliver a wealth of first-rate facilities. Marketing Event previews who will be there

This month's National Venue Show will showcase more than 300 UK

venues suitable for exhibitions, conferences, corporate hospitality,

meetings and marketing purposes of all kinds. The launch show at the NEC

will be co-located alongside the National Incentive Show and Total

Marketing Solutions, both of which are organised by Reed


"This was an exhibition waiting to happen," says Stephen Richards,

managing director of the event's organiser, Waypoint Exhibitions. "The

industry has been crying out for a national event in the autumn at a

central location and that is what we've created."

Exhibitors at the show include Nottingham's National Ice Centre, Brands

Hatch, Harrogate International Centre, G-Mex, NAC Stoneleigh Park, NEC

Group and the Concept Centre.

"We will have details of our full range of products and venues, both

established and new, with something to interest every event organiser,

whatever their requirements," says Concept Centre general manager Martin

Neale. "We'll be telling everyone at the show, if they want double the

capacity, double the flexibility and double the drama for their event,

or an intimate environment to hold smaller functions, then they've come

to the right place."

Among the football clubs present will be Aston Villa, Leicester City,

Leeds United, Coventry City and Wolverhampton Wanderers. The hotels

sector is also well supported. Big names including Hilton, De Vere,

Grand Heritage, Swallow and Four Pillars will all be there.

The National Ice Centre, which opened in April last year, will be

running a free draw for two tickets to UB40's November concert at the

Nottingham venue, while Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre will

be showcasing its planned expansion programme.

And more unusual venues, such as The National Space Centre in Leicester,

The International Centre for Life in Newcastle and the Commonwealth

Conference & Events Centre, will showcase their facilities.

But it's not only venues on show. Locating a destination is only the

first step towards staging an event - myriad professional services are

required to complete the job. The service sector is represented by

Sodexho Prestige, Compass, Opex, Arena Events and Display Matrix, among


European Event Decoration supplies decor to transform venues into a

theme of your choice. Its stand will feature a tunnel of fire and an

entrance arch of silk flames. Meanwhile, full service contractor Early

Action Group will be launching a panel system that the company claims

provides greater shell scheme flexibility. "We have worked closely with

our organisers for more than a decade and it has given us the insight

and experience to develop products such as this new system to meet

market requirements," Early Action chief executive Steve Barratt


Identilam will be showcasing its range of conference and event badging

products and services as well as producing and sponsoring the printed

lanyards that will be worn by all exhibitors and visitors at the


ESP Recruitment will be advertising a wide range of jobs. The agency

will also be hosting a special careers pavilion where visitors can view

the results of an extensive salary survey for the industry, carried out

with Marketing Event (see Live Issue,page 21). There will also be a

programme of short presentations about careers in the events industry

from industry figures as well as CV tips and interview techniques.

With an impressive line-up of more than 300 exhibitors the show promises

to be a success but only the quality and quantity of visitors can

achieve this.

"We have implemented some impressive visitor advertising, direct mail

and a strong PR campaign and even before this happened we had 4,500

pre-registered visitors," Richards says.
