Shoreditch's East Room on Tabernacle Street "hit by blaze": latest

The East Room on Shoreditch's Tabernacle Street has been hit by a major fire.

Around 20 fire engines have been fighting the blaze since the early hours of this morning. The buildings above and surrounding the venue are said to have been hit.

Images of the blaze appear to show its terrace has been gutted by the fire.

The East Room is often described as a New World wine room and event space, and forms part of Jonathan Downey's canon of bars and members' clubs. Its main event space holds 200 guests.

The restaurant's main telephonehas been out of order since the fire began.

Tabernacle Street is home to a number of stylish event spaces, including the Soho Bar, The Windmill and The East Room.

Adjacent bar Sosho was also caught up in the fire.
