AP Security, Event and Exhibition Partnership, G4S, Knights and Sons, Sword Security, Securitas Events and Wise Security Services will provide more than 5,000 stewards between them to Games venues.

Staff will provide services such as queue management, ushering, access monitoring and incident response for the 11 million spectators expected to attend the Games.

Paul Deighton, chief executive of Locog, said: ‘I am pleased to confirm the seven companies who are providing our Games times stewards. Working as a key part of our games-time workforce, stewards will be an important part of the experience for the millions of visitors to our Olympic and Paralympic venues."

The stewarding contractors have begun hiring extra staff for the Olympics and will advertise job opportunties in job brokerages and Job Centre Plus branches across the UK.

Contractor G4S is also providing security for the Games and had received 34,000 applications for its 10,000 jobs in January.
