The virtual reality (VR) event will offer fans of the brand a preview of their 21-date European tour on 28 February. Participants will need to download both the Oculus Store app and Samsung Galaxy S7 presents Years & Years in Gear VR onto their smartphone, before plugging in the headset to watch the performance.
The band will perform four tracks at a bespoke gig that has been specifically designed for a live VR experience by directory Sam Wrench. The select audience at the performance will also watch the gig live through a Samsung Gear VR headset, which will be powered by the brand new Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones.
Fans will be able to personalise their gig experience by switching between three different camera angles on their headsets.
David Lowes, chief marketing officer at Samsung Electronics Europe, said: "The smartphone is already such an integral part of our life but increasingly, it’s also going to be the gateway to amazing new one-of-a-kind experiences. That's why we have teamed up with Years & Years, who share our passion for innovation and progress and it’s really exciting for us to be working with them to take their live performance experience to a whole new level."
Jack Melhuish, marketing director at Years & Years’ record company Polydor Records, added: "This partnership has been another exciting step into the future of live music experiences. Working with great technology from Samsung, an innovative director and band, we have been able to take a standard live VR stream and turn it into a truly unique viewing experience for music fans across Europe."
