Ross goes from EVA and Stoneleigh Park

Bill Ross has left Stoneleigh Park and will resign as chairman of the Exhibition Venues Association (EVA) at a meeting on 8 April.

A new EVA chairman will be elected at the meeting. It's widely expected to be deputy chairman and Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) chief executive Mike Closier. "I would be honoured if I were elected,

said Closier. "And I would accept, subject to approval by the SECC board."

Ross's departure from Stoneleigh Park on 20 March was a result of the venue's development plans. Stoneleigh Park is gearing up for a long-term £100m redevelopment of its rural surroundings.

"It wasn't strictly my decision to leave,

said Ross. "But I am leaving amicably and I wholly support the development plans. There had to be some reorganisation as I was due to retire in three year's time and I wouldn't have been able to see the project through to completion."

Ross said he would be looking for work elsewhere in the exhibition or tourism industries. Stoneleigh Park will not directly replace Ross, who held the commercial director role. Responsibility for exhibitions, conferences and events will be handed to head of commercial events Carl Partridge, who will report to managing director David Storrar.

Ross had held the EVA chairman role since 9 October last year. During his tenure he focused on four key areas: health and safety, waste management, the development of exhibitions and the promotion of shows to small and medium-sized businesses.
