The UK event services sector is set to grow 4.4% this year, but this growth will not be across the industry as a whole, a new report warns. The survey, produced by Plimsoll, was based on research into the 627 largest firms in the UK live events and exhibitions industry. A total of 174 companies experienced growth last year, averaging a 30.4% increase in business. About 44 of these achieved a 72.9% sales growth, but Plimsoll has placed 20 in a high financial risk category as a result of the high growth rate. Almost two-thirds of the companies researched suffered falling profits in 2001 and almost 30% of them are running at a loss. The report stated that more than one-third of the industry could lose an average 17.3% of sales this year. Tarsus Group and PGI Spearhead were among the highest market share earners of last year, according to the report. Other companies that took a big slice of the market included Triple A Entertainments and Evenser Group. The analysis is available from Plimsoll priced £305.
