The Twizys have been servicing commuters across central London since 7am this morning, and they will continue to do so until 7pm tonight.

The vehicles can be identified by the "Free #Twizy Shuttle!" text on their doors, and drivers are dressed in matching branded clothing.

Each of the Twizys are complete with a phone holder and smartphone, enabling passengers to capture the experience via a photograph or on film.

To receive a free lift within Zone 1, commuters may simply request one with their nearest driver or hail an empty vehicle in the street.

A Renault spokesperson told Event the brand has opted to implement the initiative "to assist with the difficulties in getting around London that the strike can pose for people and to generate positive brand engagement as well as awareness of our electric vehicle range – Twizy is a really fun urban car and people tend to have a smile after a ride in one."

This is not the first time the brand has used Twizy vehicles as public shuttles. They were also employed at Clerkenwell Design Week and the Visa Formula E race, and will be used at the Big Feastival from 28-30 August.

Renault is joined by a number of other brands looking to offer tube strike assistance today:

  • Gett and Cadbury are offering free chocolate treats.
  • Santander has created additional Santander Cycles pop-up hubs for those wishing to avoid public transport alltogether.
  • From 8am this morning Penny Skateboards handed out 16 free skateboards to commuters at Victoria Station.
