Reed offloads Dutch division to Jaarbeurs

Reed Exhibitions has sold its Netherlands subsidiary to Jaarbeurs Exhibitions and Media (JE&M) for an undisclosed sum.

Reed Exhibitions has sold its Netherlands subsidiary to Jaarbeurs Exhibitions and Media (JE&M) for an undisclosed sum. Shows sold include financial event Geldzaken, Powder and Bulk Solids Europe and Nursing Dagen. Reed and JE&M will form a joint venture to run the fourth Infosecurity on 10 October at the Jaarbeurs Centre, Utrecht. And Reed will continue to organise this month’s 100% Design show in Rotterdam from its UK office. The E-business Expo show has been discontinued. “We have been successful in creating business but the market is too crowded,” said Reed Exhibitions new business development director – Europe Andrew Shanks. “We were a small operation among two or three large operations, including JE&M and RAI. However, we are retaining 100% Design and Infosecurity.” Job losses are likely. Out of 15 staff, only seven will be retained to oversee Infosecurity and 100% Design. The remaining eight “may have to leave”, according to Shanks. A JE&M spokesperson said: “The acquisition is consistent with our growth strategy. The titles have synergy with other trade exhibitions in our portfolio.” Reed’s operations in nearby European countries including France and Germany are unchanged.
