BAE Systems has awarded its global exhibition business to Rapier Design Group. The £13m contract will run for two years. Rapier beat seven other agencies including Mice Group and incumbent HBM during a seven-week pitch that was completed at the end of September. The agency will have responsibility for all aspects of BAE’s shows, from stand design and build to graphic design and logistics. Rapier chairman Nick de Bois said: “We delivered a proposal with synergy of message. We provided one common, consistent capability-led design, look and feel for the brand across the globe. It is the first time that BAE Systems will be developed as a brand at these exhibitions.” BAE Systems previously used in-house event organisers and an external agency for the design and build process, but made the decision to outsource its entire exhibition programme as part of a savings strategy. Rapier has taken on two members of BAE’s in-house team who were let go as a result to work on the account. Rapier’s first show for BAE Systems is Asian Aerospace 2002 in Singapore in February. The only UK show in the portfolio is Farnborough International Air Show, which takes place next July.
