Pyne unveils London Boat Show redesign

In an exclusive preview Event has seen feature areas penned for the 2007 show at Excel London that will teach visitors how to navigate through a fog tunnel, anchor vessels, cook onboard a moving boat and change oil at speed. Pyne is even hoping to convince the show’s organiser to bring back the age-old tradition of kite fishing and plans to overhaul the complete look and feel of the event, which runs from 5-14 January. NBS’s decision to scrap the Watersports Arena and the show’s temporary East Hall will result in reinvestment to bring Pyne’s proposals to life. The move has meant a rolling contract held by Arena Structures to supply NBS with its TFS structure has not been renewed while a number of exhibitors have agreed to reduce stand space to allow more room for features. The Inland Waterways feature will also make room for actual reed beds. “The visitor experience will begin from the moment visitors step into Excel with the sound of seagulls overhead, giant naval knots to sit on and sea grass and sand beneath their feet. The theme will be carried throughout the show,” said Pyne. “We’re hoping to construct a replica lighthouse complete with viewing deck offering panoramic views of the show and the Guinness Bar will be enlarged and revamped as a social hub.” NBS marketing director James Gower said: “We aim to consolidate visitor numbers for 2007 at around 140,000 and then grow the show from here. So we have to demonstrate change and become more family and leisure marine friendly. We have listened to extensive feedback from exhibitors.”
