In pictures: The Red Bull Air Race World Championship returns to Ascot

The UK leg of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship took place at Ascot over the weekend (15-16 August), for the second year running.

The world’s best pilots took to the low-level aerial racetrack, which was comprised of air-filled pylons, to clock the fastest time possible while avoiding penalties.

British pilot Paul Bonhomme won the event, meanwhile Matt Hall of Australia placed second and Japan’s Yoshihide Muroya came in third position.

Now in its eighth season, the air race travels to various locations across the globe. The 2015 event kicked off in Abu Dhabi in February and it has since travelled to Chiba in Japan, Rovinj, Croatia and the Hungarian capital of Budapest.

The next leg will take place in Spielberg, Austria on 5-6 September followed by Forth Worth, Texas. The final will be held in Las Vegas on 17-18 October.

Red Bull announced that the competition would head to Ascot for the second year in February, meanwhile last month the energy drink brand brought its Soapbox Race to London with the help of agency Innovision
