Toy brand Mattel has released colourful plans of its forthcoming Play! centre in Liverpool, which is due to open at the end of March.

The 13,000 square foot entertainment centre is based within the Albert Dock’s Hall. As a branded Mattel attraction, it will bring to life the worlds of characters such as Thomas the Tank Engine, Bob The Builder and Fireman Sam.

Visitors will be able to help Thomas restore order to Sodor Island, and embark on a construction apprenticeship with Bob and his sidekick Wendy.

The centre is owned and operated by Heritage Great Britain, which also manages tourist destinations such as Land’s End and the Snowdon Mountain Railway.

Graham Dentith, general manager of Mattel Play! Liverpool, said: "Each of the main characters will have their own zone with an individual feel and design, as well as being filled with activities to allow children to get hands-on and experience what it’s like to play alongside the characters they know and love."

Allan Leech, chief executive of Heritage Great Britain, added: "We’re tremendously excited to be able to release these images hot off the press which give a real flavour of how Mattel Play! Liverpool will look and feel once it is open for families to experience and enjoy."
