In pictures: Croatia sails Adriatic island down the Thames

The Croatian National Tourist Board activated in London last week (1 October) with a floating island complete with flags, native flowers and a medieval turret.

The tourist board enlisted agency The Persuaders to recreate the spirit of an Adriatic island in London. The experience was designed to launch Croatia’s ‘Full of life’ campaign in the capital.

The floating creation sailed past London landmarks such as Westminster and Tower Bridge throughout the day, and turned into a boat party venue in the evening.

Guests including actress Naomie Harris, Made In Chelsea’s Louise Thompson and Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic attended the VIP celebration at Butler’s Wharf Pier. DJ Norman Jay took to the decks, while British street artist Inkie created a live artwork.

Catering consisted of Croatian wine and canapés, and a traditional klapa band also provided entertainment.

The island is available to view at Butler’s Wharf until the end of today (2 October).

Ratomir Ivicic, director of the Croatian National Tourist Board, said: "We are thrilled that we were able to bring the essence of Croatia to life, brightening up the Thames with a piece of Croatian island magic that excites the senses and inspires - somewhere that is truly 'Full of life'."
