Penton Media saw turnover for its trade exhibitions and conferences plummet to $18.7m (£13m) from $52.2m (£35.9m) in the first quarter of the year.

Penton Media saw turnover for its trade exhibitions and conferences plummet to $18.7m (£13m) from $52.2m (£35.9m) in the first quarter of the year. The company blamed the fall on moving its Internet World and CRM trade shows from the first quarter into the second quarter of the year, and challenging business conditions. The group incurred overall losses of $4.6m (£3.2m) for the first three months of 2002 to 31 March. Penton chairman and chief executive Thomas Kemp said: “While we are seeing encouraging economic indicators in several of our key markets, we expect business conditions to remain challenging.”
