Party Clinic: Words of wisdom - Unlikely Party Planner

Executive PA at BP Janette Owen talks about the various challenges of party planning.

You must organise interesting creative events, working for such a large company.

I do and they aren't just in London, which can be a real challenge, especially when you've never visited the destination. I am always looking for something different.

How many events do you organise a year and for how many people?

I do an event every month or so for 15 to 40.

Where do you get your inspiration?

I have always had a creative streak in me when it comes to partying. I also use an excellent event company called Beyond Certainty that comes up with great ideas.

What has been the most challenging event you have ever organised?

It was probably in my old job, when a colleague and I had to organise a summer ball at the Dorchester Hotel for 250 staff. We did everything ourselves.

What is the best product you have ever seen in the party-planning industry?

The one I would most love to use is a product called Splash and Tickle.

It's a great concept having a spa party at corporate events.

What are the benefits of being a part-time event organiser?

I really enjoy seeing the end product come together, getting positive feedback from people and being able to use my creativity.
