Olympic Houses have "brought London venues closer"

A new communication network has been forged between the London venues chosen as Olympic Houses, according to venue managers.

Olympic bodies from different countries have chosen venues to act as their base for events and hospitality during the Games, such as Alexandra Palace, which will become Holland Heineken House.

Being chosen as a house has opened new channels of communication for the venues, which are now advising each other on plans for the Games.

Samantha Enstone, managing director of Glaziers Hall, which will be Switzerland House for the Games, told Event: "Our location on the river means we are one of the central Olympic House venues with others like Somerset House and Old Billingsgate also based around our area.

"We wouldn’t normally work with Old Billingsgate or Somerset House, but becoming Olympic Houses has given us a higher network and a reason to call up our colleagues and ask what people think and what they are doing.

"We’ve all started to advise each other and it’s a trusted group. We’ve been to see each other’s venues when we just wouldn’t do that normally. It’s a really nice thing and has brought London closer."

Tom Pinchin, sales and marketing manager for Old Billingsgate, which will act as the French House for the Olympics, said: "The Olympics is an unknown beast for London event venues so after the original competition for the countries, venues have certainly become closer in dealing with common issues.

"Security and fundamental logistics of how things work with the high volume of people expected in the venues are probably the main concerns for venues. So just chatting through our thoughts has been extremely helpful in making sure we were working along the right lines."

Pinchin added: "I believe there is more camaraderie than competition, I wish everyone well for a smooth and successful London Games."
