Olympia to stage safety congress

The first independent health and safety conference for the exhibition industry is to take place on 16 January at Olympia.

The first independent health and safety conference for the exhibition industry is to take place on 16 January at Olympia. The London conference is being organised by Event Projects. Organisers, contractors, exhibitors, venues and local authorities will all speak at the event. The headline sponsor for the event is Earls Court & Olympia. Perton Signs will supply graphic panels and signage and Marketing Event is media sponsor. The conference has already won support from the Exhibition Venues Association. “We have set up the conference because senior management needs to be aware of the regulations and risks their companies are up against,” said Event Projects managing director Robert Blaney. “If a major accident were to happen it could lead to draconian and inappropriate legislation.” According to Blaney the conference will look at “the broad picture” and highlight the legal responsibilities and liabilities of all parties and underline the dangers of not having a well planned and administered health and safety policy. “Speakers will make ten-minute presentations and all of the sessions will be open,” Blaney added. Philip Rees, former EVA chairman and commercial director of Belfast venue King’s Hall, welcomed the initiative. “I am sure the event will be extremely beneficial for everyone involved in the exhibition industry,” he said.
