Designed to drive participation in the game across the country, O2 Touch and Music looks at the positive effect music can have on rugby participants.

The programme is based around scientific research carried out by Dr Costas Karageorghis of Brunel University, which reveals that music makes touch rugby more enjoyable for all involved, particularly women.

As part of the new scheme, every O2 Touch centre, of which there are 272 across the country, will each month receive a new music mix compiled by up-and-coming DJs.

To celebrate the launch of the new programme, which operates as an extention of O2 Touch, the telecoms brand is hosting a series of sessions in London throughout September and October, with the first installment kicking off at Regent’s Park today.

Additional dates:

  • Richmond (Old Deer Park)and Clapham – 28 September, 4 October, 11 October, 18 October, 25 October, 1 November
  • Regent's Park - 29 September, 3 October, 10 October, 17 October, 24 October, 31 October

Gareth Griffiths, head of sports sponsorship at O2, said: "Grassroots rugby is a massive part of our England Rugby partnership. The O2 Touch Tour this summer was fantastic, and in such a huge year for rugby, participation at this level has never been more important.

"O2 Touch provides an entry point to the sport no matter what your ability, and by introducing music at the heart of the programme, we’re aiming to inspire even more people to start playing beyond 2015."

O2 recently hosted a live concert with Take That in support of England Rugby, and last week (15 September) it lit up its The O2 venue with the English rose.
