Officials from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) have met with association the Business Visits & Events Partnership (BVEP) to put the case forward for events.

The meetings proceed planned summits with MPs in October to lobby for a greater voice for events in parliament.

BVEP chairman Michael Hirst said the meeting "enabled a substantial overview of the many issues confronting the sector, and whilst the General Election is likely to cause a delay in taking some of these forward, we now feel well placed to capture the attention of whatever Government is elected".

Event revealed the planned lobbying campaign and event, which is to be sponsored by Confex Group, earlier this year. A professional lobbying firm is also being brought in to advise on the best way to capture the ear of the Government.

The meeting also took place at the same time as new figures released show that events are now worth an estimated £24.6bn to the UK economy.
