Merlin Events last night held an event industry TweetUp on the London Eye at short notice, followed by a double decker bus ride to modern tea house, Ping Pong.

The event was prompted by Merlin's realisation that not many Twitter users had experienced the London Eye.

The entertainment giant managed to fill a pod on the London Eye, with reserve spaces, within five minutes using the social networking site, leading it to be dubbed "the fastest event ever organised".

Guests were offered the chance to download a new digi-guide. The hand held technology knows where you are standing and pin points landmarks of interest, viewable within a 40km radius of the London Eye's glass capsules.

Touch screen technology allows users to zoom in on the landmark of interest and hear information and history on the chosen place.

The Eyetweet was made possible thanks to: www.twitter.com/thelondoneye for the Champagne capsules, www.twitter.com/henrystuart who took the photos, www.twitter.com/thebigredbus who provided transport and www.twitter.com/pingpongdumsum for delicious food and cocktails.

This is an excellent way of using social media to make things happen. It proves the value and importance of using it so any one who is not generation X or Y go and find one of them and get them to help you get started.
