Trade association and 'voice of the event community' Eventia is working on a vital blueprint that could revolutionise the way associations operate within the industry.

The proposal, which is due to be completed by the end of the year, will outline how Eventia will work hand in hand with other associations, and make official the existing links it has with the International Special Events Society UK (ISES UK) and Meeting Professionals International (MPI).

Eventia has been holding discussions with ISES UK and MPI for a number of months, exploring ways in which the organisations can come together to pool their resources.

It is hoped that, once the blueprint is complete, it will pave the way for joint networking, education and lobbying opportunities.

"It is not about us merging," said Eventia executive director Izania Downie. "It's about creating clearer lines of communication and a more united voice. Corporate social responsibility and BS8901 are great examples of issues on which we can work together."

Downie was recently invited to meet with the European heads of associations - from countries including Germany, Spain, Italy, France and Portugal - to see if there are any ways that they can collaborate. They are set to meet again at the European Event Awards, which take place in Turin on 21 November.
