The French Olympic Committee has booked Old Billingsgate for the duration of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The mega deal, the first of a number expected to take place across the capital's major venues (check out Event magazine's May issue for a feature on what venues are doing during the event), will see the French Olympic Committee house the activities for the French Olympic Village, entertaining their athletes, French visitors and special VIP guests.

According to organisers "the essence of France will be brought to the venue for an entire month with nightly celebrations for their hoped medal successes".

According to sources, a number of major National Olympic Committees are already finalising plans for 2012. The Czech Republic, Nigeria, and Australia have held talks with venues. Olympics sponsors, too, are looking for bases for Olympic celebrations.
