NEW MEDIA NEWS: Excel smart software boosts show activity

Evensis has become the first organiser to make full use of Excel's Smart Space package, which provides multiple high speed Internet connections to its exhibition halls.

Evensis used the software, which was developed by the Docklands venue's in-house Intouch team, to create a fully connected and live demonstration environment at Public Sector Expo 2002 last month.

Each exhibitor received a high-speed Internet connection as part of its exhibition stand package and an Office of Government Commerce feature area was set up to allow buyers to see online dummy orders go through the buying process.

Seminars in the venue's break-out rooms were streamed to the exhibition floor during the two-day event along with Chancellor Gordon Brown's Budget speech on 17 April.

Evensis managing director Richard Weston said: "The exhibitors were able to demonstrate in real-time their e-commerce systems online and exhibitors and visitors maximised the benefits of attending the show."

Intouch business development director Amanda Cooper said: "Smart Space enables exhibitors to remain connected to their offices and global customers while exhibiting. We are now working with a number of organisers to maximise the benefits of this space up-grade at events.

"Some organisers are looking at creating a total event network to provide opportunities for online show dailies, announcements, sponsorship opportunities and streaming seminars,

she added.
