What was the party?
MTV Europe held its 17th party at the Cannes Film Festival for the Hollywood film industry and invited guests to celebrate `MTV at the Movies'.Sponsored by removable data suppliers Imation, the party was held at La Palais Oriental in Chemin des Collines,France.
How was the party themed?
A fusion of Moroccan mystery and Oriental charm with a twist of Miami Vice."Once we had taken the furniture out of the venue the white marble and white plastered walls gave us a blank canvas, which was great. It meant we could use the 80s-style colours of pink and turquoise,"explains MTV Europe's pan- European marketing and event director Macky Drese. The party was set on two main indoor levels of a stunning villa, on the bottom floor guests enjoyed the custom-made dance floor, while upstairs made for an innovative reception area. Juxtaposed to this was a Moroccan-style chill-out room complete with hubbly bubbly smoking pipes. Outside there were two terrace areas and a swimming pool, which provided a perfect backdrop of the Côte d'Azur and Plage de la Croisette. Throughout the venue there were five bars and three sound systems, which saw Grandmaster Flash and the Audio Bullys take to the DJ decks and celebrities such as Jodie Kidd and Michael Madsen hit the dance floor.
Who was behind the party?
Drese used the production skills of GSP managing director Jules Stevenson, who headed a team of companies that included Gorman Productions and Sculptivate. Clockhouse Concepts were responsible for the sound systems, while Arpege looked after the lighting. Cover it Up assembled the drapes and rigging, and Ravenous looked after the catering.
What were the highlights?
Besides being a dream venue, the sunken edge mirrored dance floor created in the indoor swimming pool gave guests the impression they were dancing on water. The hand-crafted designs, which were used to decorate the bars and the dance floor, matched the exterior walls of the villa perfectly.
