The Titanic Sounds gig on 13 April will feature music performances against the backdrop of the new Titanic Belfast tourist attraction. An MTV spokesman said details of performers would be revealed in the coming weeks.

The concert marks a return to the Belfast for MTV, which held the EMAs in the city last November. The awards featured artists such as Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber and brought an estimated £10 million economic boost to the city.

The MTV gig is the headline event in the Titanic Festival, a three-week series of 120 events to commemorate the sinking of the liner, which was built in Belfast. The event programme will include the biggest ever digital projection lighting show, according to organisers.

Niall O Donnghaile, lord mayor of Belfast, said the festival would attract visitors from all over the world. "This is such an exciting time for our city and this festival reflects the incredible interest in Titanic," he said.

Other events to commemorate the Titanic centenary include a documentary and music event at Belfast's Waterfront Hall which will be broadcast live on BBC Two.
