Montgomery in naming rights hitch

Montgomery Exhibitions has taken over building exhibition Construct and is lobbying Emap to allow it to rebrand the show at King's Hall in Belfast as Interbuild.

The Interbuild name is a joint venture between Montgomery and Emap, which means Montgomery can't attribute the name without the consent of its partner.

Montgomery chairman Sandy Angus said: "We are trying to use the Interbuild name so we have to offer Emap first option to come into the venture with us. If it chooses not to we will need to get its permission to go ahead and use the name."

Montgomery is expecting a decision from Emap by the middle of the month.

According to Angus, if Emap is unwilling to cooperate, the show is likely to be named The Building Exhibition. It is due to take place from 11-13 March 2003,

King's Hall has hosted a building show since 1971, during which time it has been run by a number of organisers under several different names.

Montgomery is the fourth organiser to take over the event.

Angus said: "When the Belfast show came up it was an opportunity to exploit our history of building shows."
