Mixed views on state of market

A round table discussion attended by sectors of the exhibition

industry brought mixed views on the state of consumer shows.

The meeting, organised by Forte Communications and held in Shoreditch,

London, was attended by representatives from Hewlett-Packard, field

marketing agency Swing FM, design agency Work and contract furniture

company SCP.

It was chaired by Association of Exhibition Organisers (AEO) deputy

director Austen Hawkins.

One contributor said: 'A lot of the industry is still Mr Byrite and it

should really be French Connection'. Another added: 'Exhibitions need to

be at the cutting edge which is much more than organisers realise.'

A Forte spokeswoman said: 'Problems with the industry needed to be aired

to the AEO. Organisers can see what they are and can do something about

it.'

A discussion on trade shows will take place in about four months.
