X Factor finalists Olly Murs and Stacey Solomon opened the show earlier today (8 January). Some 500 exhibitors and 125,000 visitors are expected.

"The British public have not been put off by the weather and our ticket sales have risen by 15% on last year. The show has a loyal following and is seen as a great day out," said the show's marketing manager Samantha Bryant.

"Next year we are planning a big extension as Excel expands."

As reported widely in Event, Excel is set to expand by 2011.

Highlights at the event, which is organised by National Boat Shows and the British Marine Federation, include sail boats, dinghies, engines, electronics, deck equipment and charter holidays.

This year, a show record of 80 product launches are expected. The most expensive boat on show will be the Sunseeker 37 Metre, priced at £11m.
