Liquid launches show to get kids into sport

Liquid Exhibitions has set up an event to get youngsters to try different sports. The Sport Show, which debuts at Earls Court from 4-6 July, is being backed by 20 sports governing bodies including the Football Association and the Rugby Football Union. The show will target families and cover 17,000sqm of space at the London venue. Featured sports include football, cricket, rugby, basketball and gymnastics. Liquid event director Andy Kiwanuka said: “This type of show has never been done in this country before. With most under-15s doing less than one hour of sport a week, we hope it can change their lifestyles. This type of umbrella event will help the Government in its efforts to champion British sport.” The event will incorporate zones designed by Wall 2 Wall Futbol. Each zone will give visitors the chance to try a particular sport with coaching sessions on offer. Fulham Football Club and Surrey County Cricket Club are among the organisations supporting The Sport Show. A marketing drive starts this month with media partners including satellite TV station Eurosport, radio station Kiss 100 and London paper the Evening Standard. Liquid Exhibitions hopes to make the show an annual event. Regional spin-offs are planned for 2004. The Sport Show will go to Manchester’s G-Mex next May and Glasgow’s Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in August.
