Bourgeois and Maurice

"Bourgeois and Maurice are a musical neo-cabaret duo featuring the camp and patronising Bourgeious, and the glamorous, pouting and sultry Maurice who plays piano and sports a beehive hairdo that would make Amy Winehouse jealous. Their act essentially consists of a flamboyant mix of music, visuals, theatre and fabulous costumes.

The songs are funny and catchy with often dark and bizarre lyrics ("If you don't know what to do with your life then die" and  "Do you like that little bit of Ritalin we gave you?") in front of an excellent and artistic video backdrop. The show has undertones of the 1920s but with songs about piercings, MySpace and boring office jobs.

Regardless of the comedic elements of the show, as a whole it is also an audio-visual treat, and the vocal talents of Maurice in particular are outstanding.

They perform regularly at east London fashion haunt Bistrotheque, were featured as part of the Royal Academy of Art's GSK Contemporary season, and have just enjoyed a sell-out season at the Soho Theatre. As for the corporate market, the sheer campness and theatricality of their show may put some organisers off, but there are always clients who want to be that little bit more adventurous."
