Clifford, who is also chef patron at the two-Michelin starred Midsummer House Restaurant in Cambridge, was one of 23 other chefs from across the UK who were vying for the chance to cook one of the four-courses at an Olympic banquet. He began his battle to reach the final of the show in April.

His winning creation, a slow-poached chicken, sweetcorn egg, spinach with bacon and peas, received top scores from all four judges.

At Kudos, Daniel works on menu development and regularly runs tailored sessions for the company’s chefs. His ‘Michelin masterclasses’ are a regular feature as part of Kudos chef’s training and development programmes.

Clifford said: "I was thrilled to hear my name called out and it is a real honour to cook at this banquet. The competition was as tough as it gets so I am really pleased to have won through.

"When it comes to our food and produce, we have a lot to be proud of here in the UK and I am pleased to be able to help showcase the best of British in my own little way."

The final episode of Great British Menu airs tonight on BBC Two at 7pm.
