Opening today (7 November) and running until New Year's Eve, The Garding Society pop-up is styled as a festive and immersive forest, featuring winter warmer dishes from Mac & Wild, including a hamburger created exclusively for the venue and seasonal cocktails from Background Bars. The decor has been inspired by Britain's woodlands and forests, with guests entering the rooftop into a natural fir tree glade, with wooden picnic tables among vegetable patches.
The area features three cosy private dining lodges with 'hot toddy bells', seating between four to eight diners. Visitors can use the bell to order dishes and drinks and the lodges house their own individual sound system that can be linked to smartphones.
Mac & Wild masterclasses will be hosted on the roof and include learning how whisky is made, with single malts tastings with UK ambassadors, pairing whisky with chocolate, whisky and beer tastings and a Balblair Haggis-making class, where guests can find out about the ingredients and make their own, as well as taking home a dram of Balblair's finest whisky.
John Lewis opened a summer rooftop this year that hosted pop-up restaurants alongside an Etsy pop-up shop. The retailer is also partnering with home dining experts Denby to rewrite dinner party rules.
