Charity International Alert is to host its Conflict Cafe concept for the third year running in September, where it will be exploring the cuisines and conflicts of Lebanon and Sri Lanka.

The event, taking place from 22 September to 2 October, in the underground tunnels of House of Vans London, is part of the Talking Peace Festival organised by the charity.

The festival, also in its third year, will launch on UN International Peace Day on 21 September, with the 2016 event marking 30 years of the charity's teambuilding initiatives.

The pop-up cafe, which celebrates the power of food to break down barriers and get people talking, invites diners join communal tables where they are treated to a feast of traditional dishes from countries that have experienced conflict around the world.

The concept also aims to provide an interactive experience, where guests will find out more about the issues facing the country in focus by hearing from the chef and Alert experts at brief intervals throughout the three-course meal.

The Conflict Café will run for two weeks. First up is Lebanon week, showcasing a country that has had its cuisine enriched by being host to over a million refugees. The focus will then shift to flavours of Sri Lanka – where International Alert first started its peacebuilding work thirty years ago. The event is running in partnership with experimental dining company Grub Club, House of Vans London and Cult Events.

In November, the BT Tower will be helping to raise money for disaster relief charity RedR, by opening its tower and offering 'flights' to the top. Homeless charity Shelter created a pop-up boutique in July to mark its 50th anniversary and to raise money for its cause.
