WHAT WAS THE PARTY?
The capital's Renaissance Club and Austrian ski trip organiser Hinterglemm's Apres World held an apres-ski party at The Roof Gardens in Kensington to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity. The 450 guests at the event included members of the Renaissance Club, fundraisers and supporters of the charity, along with a sprinkling of celebrity VIPs.
HOW WAS THE PARTY THEMED?
With a brief to re-create an Austrian ski resort, organisers transformed the venue into a snowy wonderland. Initial plans included covering the entire outdoor gardens with a thick layer of fake snow, but a torrential downpour during the day and evening of the event meant they had to improvise. This included turning the ground floor entrance into a ski-lift reception area complete with green pine trees, skis and skiing equipment.
As guests entered they were handed authentic ski passes and headed to the sixth floor where they were greeted by a band performing traditional Austrian music, and the scantily clad dance troupe Zoe's Dancers. To compensate for the poor weather the charity used the venue's new Christmas temporary structure to re-create the snowy theme, filling it with props such as reindeers, icicles and simulators that allowed guests to test themselves on virtual slopes. Outside, under the safety of a protective canopy, revellers could also refuel with a winter barbecue and drinks including schnapps and two-pint jugs of Austrian beer Jagermeister.
WHO WAS BEHIND THE PARTY?
Hotel group Blumenhotels and Apres World came up with the concept and added an authentic feel, while Theme Traders provided the props and theming. Austrian caterer Do & Co created the menu, Cellar Trends supplied the drinks and the Bergenbahn Lift Company produced the tickets on real ski passes.
WHAT WERE THE HIGHLIGHTS?
A lot of credit must go to the guests who, despite the bad weather, got into the spirit of the evening by donning full skiing regalia. This was complemented by the theming of the temporary structure and its transformation into an authentic-looking apres-ski arena.
