Industry outsiders to talk at AEO forum

This year’s Association of Exhibition Organisers (AEO) forum will feature speakers from outside the industry. Representatives of advertising agencies and blue-chip companies are among those who will share their experiences of exhibitions at “Ex… Change – changing markets, changing fortunes”. AEO director-general Trevor Foley said: “Things are going well in the industry, but we can’t rest on our laurels and we need to stay ahead of the game.” The two-day event at The International Centre, Telford from 4-5 September will include more workshops than last year. Topics will include show sponsorship and visitor promotion ideas. Foley said: “There will be a choice of streams whereas last year there was only one. We want to make sure that it appeals to sales, marketing and operations teams as well as the managing directors and chief executives.” He added that there would be more opportunity for debate this year after the high number of speakers in 2001 left little time for question and answer sessions. Confirmed speakers from the industry include Penton Europe managing director Andy Center, Earls Court & Olympia Group chief executive Andrew Morris and Mike Rusbridge, chairman of Reed Exhibitions. The 2001 forum was att-ended by 270 delegates and Foley expects the number to increase to 300 this year. “The numbers don’t really matter so long as we get the right people to attend,” he said. “We are determined to develop the forum as a high- level conference.”
